Lead Like an Artist at Work
because creativity is an underdeveloped SUPERPOWER YOU can activate in your team for innovation and goal achievement!
Leading a team is no joke! Motivating people toward a common goal can seem like an enigma. You dream of being able to:
confidently guide your team in working together to create and implement innovative solutions.
have a big vision that you can clearly communicate and that others want to invest in.
inspire every member of your team to see themselves as Leaders and to use all their skills and talents towards your goals.
make your team/organization a place where people want to work while increasing the bottom line.
Unfortunately, it’s easy for these goals to get crushed below the weight of the lofty expectations, turnover, and conflict that zaps the spark right out of your team.
But you know this doesn’t have to be your team’s story. You know you can do better with the resources you have, but you need a new approach to get your team lit up with ideas and acting on them.
I agree! And Leading Like an Artist is a powerful approach!

“Karen Light offers a uniquely creative approach to bring teams together around new ideas. From the ideology of ‘everyone can doodle,’ HowDoodle offers a space for ideas and decisions to emerge in a fun way. It's highly likely that solutions will emerge that were not considered using traditional methods like brainstorming, while also providing a way for teams to get to know each other. This may be especially useful for teams that are feeling stuck. I offer Karen and HowDoodle my highest recommendation.”

ARTISTS ARE NATURAL LEADERS! They don’t wait for someone else to make something happen. They know they are the creator and see a project through from idea to implementation with creativity, perseverance, and skill.
When you Lead Like an Artist, you lead with:
curiosity, experimentation, and creativity in the face of challenges.
your eye on a clear vision that you inspire your team to rally around.
confidence in your ability to repurpose, create anew, and forge innovative paths.
the deep awareness of yourself and your team that is needed to effectively create the teamwork needed to achieve the vision.
I’m Not An Artist - How Do I Lead Like One?
Artists use a process to guide them in creating an idea and bringing it to fruition, but you don’t have to be an artist to use this process! You simply have to bring forth your inner artist (which exists in all of us) and follow the stages of the artistic process:
ENVISION
BRAINSTORM
EXPERIMENT
REFINE
SHARE

I am a life-long artist, teacher, coach, and leader with decades of experience helping thousands of people *mostly non-artists* unlock their inner artist!
Doodling is my magic key.
As I lead people in creating doodles with a problem-solving mindset, the artistic process yields tangible results such as exciting new directions, more effective teamwork, and bolder actions toward goals.
Doodling creates the container for innovative processes, solutions, and actions to be conceived of, experimented with, and refined until the goal is met. And, on top of that, it’s FUN!
You can read more about the neuroscience behind doodling here!
Your Team Will Doodle Their Way Into:
Sparking New Creative Ideas
Rooted in Neuroscience, you and your team will learn a fun and easy way to stimulate more parts of the brain so you can solve problems, innovate, and take things to the next level.
Developing as a Team
Connection and communication is built into the process in a way that facilitates deeper understandings that can lead to a more efficient work environment.
Taking More Initiative
Each member will be challenged to see themselves as a Leader charged with the responsibility and inspiration to make things happen for their goals, their team’s goals, and the company’s goals.

My Message to You:
I worked for several years at a national corporate school, serving on the local leadership team. The company, like many others, expressed a desire for innovation but struggled to create an environment conducive to practicing it.
The day-to-day demands often took precedence over the bigger vision. In middle leadership, I found myself torn between the aspirations of students and teachers, my own vision for the school, and the constraints imposed from above.
Eventually, my deep disappointment led me to leave the job I had expected to stay in for many years. I have since reflected extensively on what could be done to cultivate innovative spaces that invite the talent and skills of eager workers.
As an artist, I know that dedicating time to nurturing ideas and playfully experimenting leads to favorable outcomes 99% of the time. I understand that wholehearted devotion and love for the creative process are what produce beautiful results.
Now, I have a vision of helping those at all levels of an organization see themselves as artists. I witness how this leads them to value space for creativity and experience the transformative impact it has on their daily lives.
I firmly believe that nurturing the creative genius within every individual, within every team member, is the key to flourishing. When we thrive collectively, we enhance the bottom line, creating a win-win situation for everyone involved.
As someone who is not entrenched in your workplace culture, I promise to bring a fresh perspective and an abundance of creative energy coupled with a toolbox full of practical strategies for action. Furthermore, I pledge to inspire the same in your team.
Get ready for those "ah-ha" moments that foster innovative and effective teams!
