#27: How to Build Self-Trust

In my years of working with Creatives, both coaching and teaching, I have witnessed the power of trusting oneself.  Yet, many struggle to trust themselves. The prevalent messages received throughout life about the way we “should” do something slowly erodes that self-trust when your way is different from the norm.  And we Creatives tend to be different from the norm.

How can we remember what feels natural for us?  How can we regain trust that what feels natural to us can be good for us?

I’m excited to have my friend and fellow Creative, Jarrett Clayman, here with me so we can chew on this complex topic together.

In this episode we create a tool that you can use to practice self-trust. So grab something to doodle on and doodle with to get the full experience as we dive into:

→ What are societal messages that keep us from trusting our natural way of doing things?

→ What are the signs that we are not trusting ourselves?

→ How can we practice growing in self-trust?

#26: How to Unleash Your Creative Flow!

Everyone wants to feel the flow and be in the flow and go with the flow, but what happens when the flow just isn’t flowing?  How can you unleash your creativity when you feel blocked?

I’m so excited to have this conversation with a glittery queen of Creativity, Shannon McDonald, the artist behind Pop Shop Universe!

This episode is jam packed with tips to try.  So grab something to doodle on and doodle with to get the full experience as we dive into:

→ What causes creative block and what it looks like for you

→ What creative flow feels like

→ A gazillion ways you can go from blocked to flowing!

#25: How to Create WITH All the Feels!

I FEEL a lot as I continue to work towards the big things that I want and sometimes my nervous system goes awry.  In my experience, those who identify as Creative tend to lean more towards the emotional side of the logical-emotional spectrum and can easily become overwhelmed.

I don’t think the answer is to feel less as being highly sensitive people is what enables us to help others feel things through our creations.  So how can we navigate through all the emotions and without it stopping us from reaching our goals?

Follow along to make progress on a creative goal of yours as I discuss this topic with two Creatives, Robin Bradley Hansel and Kate Griffiths.  We doodle dive into:

→ The spectrum of feelings that comes with accomplishing our creative goals

→ How the harmful messages we have received from society about being emotional or sensitive can make tough emotions tougher

→ If teachers can be found within the chaos of all the feelings

#24: How to Reframe Procrastination to Ignite Creativity

The dreaded procrastination!  Ahhh!  It shows up for all of us on our creative journeys.  When is it harmful, is it ever helpful, and how do we expect it and move with it?

Fellow Creatives, Cat Hase, Michelle Manassah, and Nikki Smith doodle discuss this topic with me.  We discover what our procrastination monsters look like, what messages in society have shaped them, and how we can reframe procrastination into productivity.

Grab something to doodle on and doodle for powerful insights and ideas around your procrastination!

#23: How to NOT Hate Structure

The word "structure" makes many Creatives cringe.  It can feel limiting, imposing, rigid, and really boring.

My creative guests, Maribel Lopez of Vision Starts and Kellita Maloof of Showgirl Awakening, are my brave companions into this sticky topic.  Grab something to doodle on and doodle with as we discuss why structure is so challenging for creative people, why we need it, and how it could, perhaps, even feel good.

Your creative visions, dreams, and goals will be happy you did!

#22: How to Embody Forgiveness

What does your creative success have to do with embodying forgiveness? As I learned in this conversation with Somatic Healing Practitioner, Sharon LaFlamme, SO MUCH!

Your nervous system is dictating the risks you take and don’t take, the way that you express yourself, and your capacity to handle life’s challenges, among many other things. Furthermore, holding on to unforgiveness for ourselves or for others eats up your valuable energy and keeps your nervous system at unhelpful levels of stress.

Doodle with us through this exploration of forgiveness and see what new space and new energy you can free up so you can create what truly matters to you.

#21: How to Become Boundaried AF!

Boundaries. How do you feel about them? Most people want more but hate setting them. Others create boundaries that are actually walls or are so rigid that they get boxed in.

In this episode, I sit down with the Nope Coach, Suzanne Culberg, to talk about this charged concept. We dive into why boundary-setting can be so hard, why it's worth it, and how to create boundaries in a way that doesn’t have to feel so bad.

Grab something to doodle on and doodle with to explore your boundaries and find your own reasons for holding space for what matters most to you.

#20: How to Communicate for Effective Engagement

Are you ready for some super practical how-to tips for communicating in a way that makes others want to respond?! I know I always am!

In this episode, I am joined by Mathew Worthen and Emily Miller of Dignified Learning and we are discussing the seemingly ever-elusive state of clear communication as it is often in a tumultuous relationship with the dreaded Misunderstanding! How can we cultivate ways of communicating that help us to BOTH be heard and hear each other so we can accomplish what we want to accomplish together?

Join us as we share ideas for ways to set up your meetings and trainings for engagement, how to send emails people will actually respond to, effective uses of calendars, and more. Doodle your way to transforming the overwhelm into under control.

#19: How to Harness the Power of Possibility in Menopause

Menopause. Women may look forward to the time when they no longer have their periods, but they may also dread it. It’s known for hot flashes, mood swings, lack of libido, and as a milestone into the last phase of life.

While the physical and emotional challenges are real, there are also possibilities that some women find downright empowering. My guest, Artist Morgan O’Donnell, and I dive into the full spectrum of the menopausal experience and highlight why it is so important that we talk about this somewhat hushed topic in the workplace.

#18: How to Rewire from the Inside Out

Do you Lead from the Outside In or the Inside Out??

In this episode, my guest, Leadership Coach Mike Clouse, and I discuss a common challenge in leadership - getting centered on our own identity, worth, and value rather than unconsciously seeking outer validation.

It’s a challenge that is so easy to get caught up in as most of us are leaders because we want to serve and help others! However, funny enough, if we act from the outside in, we often do ourselves and others a disservice. Instead, we must turn that ship around and begin working from the inside out.

Grab something to doodle on and doodle with as he walks us through the SightShift framework of rewiring from the inside out which includes Awareness, Leaning In, Flipping, and Flowing!

#17: How to CREATE Effective RELATIONAL Leadership

What is your leadership style? We have heard of many common categories that you might fall under such as Autocratic, Coaching, Democratic, Laissez-faire, Servant, and Visionary. But have you heard about the Relational style? Indeed defines it as “a model of leadership that suggests the effectiveness of a leader relates to their ability to develop positive relationships within an organization.”

I’m excited to welcome my guest, Dennise Kowalczyk, an online marketer and content creator, to dive deeper into this style of leadership through conversation and doodling. We will get clearer on what it is and what it is not, what it takes to develop this style, and the possible impacts it could have on our workplaces.

#16: How Kind Leadership Takes Strength and Creativity

When I say strong leader to you, what qualities come to mind? Chances are, kindness and creativity might not be at the top of that list, but my guest, Activator, Artist, and Coach Karyn Ross, and I say that they should!

In an increasingly polarizing society, we need to find more tools of connection to counteract such division. Leaders must continue to develop skills and strategies to hold space for all views to be expressed and for emotional safety to be felt if we are to succeed in our missions. This is where kindness and creativity come into play. (And play is more than ok!)

Grab a pen and doodle along to become a kinder leader equipped with strength and creativity!

#15: How to Live with Uncertainty

If there is one thing we know for certain, it is that life throws us some crazy surprises, and they aren’t always pleasant. One thing we don’t know for certain is when those things are going to come our way. And, when they do, we don’t know for certain how the journey will go or what the outcome will be.

So how do we live with all that uncertainty? How do we continue living with the fear that arises and not let it paralyze us?

My guest, poet Jackene Laverty, is here to tell us her story of living with uncertainty as someone who was diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago. No matter what scary thing you may be facing, her poetry and words have much truth to tell and inspiration to give for each person listening. As she shares, we will doodle along to find our own way of being with the uncertainty.

#14: How to Live and Work Well Alongside Invisible Illness

When you have an invisible illness, your work life, and life in general, is anything but “normal.” Periodically, your health may make it challenging to do tasks you are used to doing and that others expect of you. It may also make it difficult to keep to a typical schedule.

Others may perceive you as unreliable or not invested. You may not know how to explain your illness or want to. Meanwhile, you want nothing more than to fulfill your commitments and feel up for all the tasks.

My guest, Simone Giangiordano of BalanceUP® Lifestyle & Business Coaching, knows this pain. She has multiple invisible illnesses alongside significant injuries and has transformed her challenges into her meaningful path in the world, helping others in similar situations find more joy and satisfaction in their life and work.

#13: How to Make Goal Setting a Part of Your Happiness Habits Routine

There is this lie we are told - that working hard and achieving goals is everything. But when it doesn’t give you the results you want, it’s time to look at HOW we make those goals and HOW we get there.

What motivates your goals?  Is it “shoulds” and “obligations”?  Or is it in alignment with a bigger purpose and deeper dreams?

Does the process feel grueling?  Are you tempted to bail or settle for less when the challenges feel insurmountable?  Or have you found a way to embrace and enjoy the process?

My guest, Michelle Reeves, author of The Happiness Habits Transformation, is here to help us create a habit of goal-setting that feels exciting and that leads to more happiness!

#12: How to Break Free of Good Girl Mentality for a More Juicy and Meaningful Life

This one is for the good girls.  Those of us who have internalized society’s messaging that you must serve everyone before yourself - that you must be nice and accommodating and make sure everyone likes you.  It can affect you at home and at work, feeling like a weight is constantly on your shoulders.

If you got this far, your interest is probably sparked because you either are worn out and wondering if there is another way or you are continuing to do the deep work necessary to stop living from the good girl mentality.

My guest, Linda Katz, is here to lead us into this juicy and meaningful topic.  Together, we will dive into how we can let go of being the good girl and not let go of our hearts.  Let’s doodle-to-doing actions that create a more sustainable life where we can thrive for ourselves and others.  Where we become the LEADERS at home and at work that inspire and serve in much more effective ways.

#11: How to Launch into Action as the Hero in Your Life

You have a creative idea and you are inspired!  So why the heck do you get in your own way?  Why can it be so hard to transform that idea into effective and satisfying action?

The good news is that you aren’t alone. This is the conundrum of every person striving to be the hero in their own lives.  It is the task of every one who wants to intentionally create a life of satisfying experiences and meaningful success and it is what grows each of us into more empowered, resilient people.

My guests, Jessica Clancy, Krissy Metzler, and Kate Wade of the Goalden System, are here to share about common challenges that can get in the way of launching into action so that you can take those next steps!

#10: How to Bloom Your Goals with Spring Colors!

Life is full of cycles!  Day and night, the weeks, our moods, the seasons, the moon, the course of a year… Often we forget this and try to make our lives consistent day-in and day-out.  This inevitably sets us up for additional stress and possibly even feelings of failure.

What would it look like instead to embrace the cycles?  To accept that there are times for doing more and times for doing less and times for incubating ideas and times for turning them into reality?  What ease and peace and joy might that bring into the process?

I am inviting my guest, Deborah Kozich of Infinite Coach and LoveMakers Foundation, to be a guest with each change of season to help us find that rhythm and tap into our natural cycles.  Today, let’s doodle-to-doing our way to tuning into the energy of spring and embracing its colors to help us bloom the goals that are in our hearts and on our minds.

#9: How to Reinvent Your Way Through the Hardest Times

In many ways, we have been fed the message that achieving our goals is a linear process. You define the goal, create steps, and get there just like walking up a staircase. When this isn’t working out, we tend to think we are messing up.

It’s not that we are wrong, it’s the concept that is wrong! The truth is that we make a goal and go on a long winding road with dead-ends, u-turns, and lots and lots of construction. The truth is, we are mostly on an unknown path that is being created as we go.

At times, it can make us just want to find a safe place to pull over and be ok with whatever is there. But what magic might await us if we can stick it out, keep paving new roads, and keep believing that what we are after can be achieved?

That is the story my guest, Andy Swindler, a man of many hats, including Co-Founder of FeelReal and Head of Partnerships at Translator, wants to share with us his story. Let’s doodle our way through the hardest times!

#8: How to Use Your Creative Energy for Peace and Empowerment

In life, it can seem like things just happen to us which can sometimes make it difficult to know why we are working so hard! Who's to say why something terrible shows up or a great opportunity is suddenly in front of us?

But what if we switch our mindset. What if things are happening FOR us and not just TO us? AND what if you had more power than you thought to bring things into your life that you actually want?

I invited my guest, Esperanza Smith, Energy Medicine Practitioner and Founder of PureEsperanza, NFP, for just this reason! In this episode, we talk about harnessing your CREATIVE energy to not only create the life you want, but to find satisfying meaning in the things that happen that you DIDN’T want.
