THRIVE Creative Executive Function Program

A curriculum-based, comprehensive program for Creatives who struggle with Executive Function with a CREATIVE approach!

Within you, Creative, is a unique way of approaching yourself, others, and work that sometimes gets buried beneath societal norms, fears, and/or simply not knowing how to best use the gifts you have been given.

This 12-Session program begins with you - your creative process, your dreams, your feelings, your brain, and your vision. This creates the canvas upon which you will learn to paint with practical tools as you explore how to make your life become what you envision.

You will also create a one-stop-shop Creative Command Book that will house all the tools and processes. This will be an invaluable resource for you well beyond the course itself.

The Curriculum

Module 1: Vision

You start with a vision for what can be achieved through this course for your time, creativity, and effort. What do you SEE for yourself that MOTIVATES you enough to face challenges?

Creative Command Book: What is it? How can it be done in a creative way that you enjoy? Why is it important? How will it be helpful during AND after the course?

Your BIG WHY: What is it that drives you? What do you yearn for? How can it inspire you to keep going even when things are tough? How can you sprinkle in more of what you want now?

Module 2: Canvas

This section includes three exploration exercises for a deeper understanding of one's inner world which is full of treasures and tricks.  These exercises help us to make it a supportive foundation for success to be built upon.

Your Creative Process: What do you like to create? How do you create it?  How does your brain naturally learn? How can this be applied to other aspects of your life?

Emotional Guidance: What feelings emerge when you look at your challenges?  How can you tend to your emotions without letting them stop you from making progress? What helpful information might lie within your emotions?

Magical Mindset: Where are their limitations in your life and in your thinking? Which are real and which are perceived? How can you use your creativity to either work with them or overcome them?

Module 3: Brushes

Now that you have a vision and prepared your canvas, it’s time to learn how to use some tools - aka brushes! Tools are powerful. Tools take concepts and move them into practices. Practices lead to change, expansion, and success!

Project Management: How do you manage all the tasks associated with any kind of project? How do you know where to start or what to do next? How do you manage to make progress when life is so busy?

Habits: What is your relationship with discipline?  How can it become a positive relationship?  What are the best times for which tasks? What are ramps and barriers to creating habits?  When are there exceptions to the rules?

Time Management: How do you see time? Where does it trip you up? How can you become more aware of how you are spending time so you can make choices that feel good? How can you feel more in control of your time?

Prioritization: How do you feel less overwhelmed by the to-do lists? How do you choose which things to focus on? What do you do when everything seems equally important? How do you choose things that feel less important in some ways, but more important in others?

Task and Workspace Organization: How do you keep track of everything you need to do? How do you not get overwhelmed by the list? How can you organize tasks and your workplace in a way that complements your vision and goals?

Module 4: Painting

Now begins the process of painting. I support you in practicing using your tools in way that helps you to paint your vision.

The Practice Path: What underlies all practice is Task Initiation (starting what you want to start when you want to start it) and Perseverance (the ability to keep going even through challenges.) As you work towards your vision in our final sessions, we build a path that helps you to keep starting and keep going. You learn how your Creative Command Book can serve you in this process well beyond the program.

The power is inside of you!

You can use your CREATIVITY to find YOUR way through ALL your challenges!

“Karen's coaching style is open-minded and gentle, yet straightforward and effective. I worked with her for a year and a half, and my life is completely different now! Thanks to Karen's encouragement and super-practical toolkit, I'm now self-employed and paying all the bills doing what I want to do. Karen is insightful, genuine, and caring. If you work with Karen, too, you won't be disappointed. You'll walk away with better life skills, more in touch with yourself, and with a clearer direction toward your desires.”

Every Session Includes:

Check In: Where are you at? How are you feeling (in general and towards your goals)? What are your celebrations and challenges since our last session?

Preparation Activity: Depending on how you are feeling, we will do an activity to get present and ensure the proper stimulation for getting the most out of our time together.

Creative + Practical Tool: For the bulk of each session, you will engage with a tool that will guide you through the topic of that session. The tools will become a part of your Creative Command Book that you will have for your continued success beyond the program!

Guided Question: A good question can be a source of exploration and guidance. At the end of each session, you will have a new guided question that you will play with between sessions. It can also help you gain independence in coaching yourself!

Support Person/People Challenge: Each session you will be challenged to share and/or do something with your support person/people. Everyone needs to create a circle of support around them and this will help you do so in a way that feels helpful to you! (If you are a young person whose parent is paying for the program and live at home, your support person will be your parent(s). If you are paying for the program yourself and/or live independently, you will identify who you want your support person/people to be.)

Inspired Experiment: Based on our discussion, we will create an experiment for you to try between sessions in the Creative Goals Working Circle and on your own. They will help you to learn more about yourself and try out new ideas, processes, and tools. Things NOT working is always an important part of the process that challenges you to use your creativity for new ideas and growth!

Case Study:

C.A. was successful in school early on, but that changed at the end of high school. Her confidence plummeted alongside her grades. She started working with me going into her Freshman year of college when the pandemic meant she had to take online classes that made it even more difficult for her. Gradually, though, C.A. realized that she was not inherently flawed and, in fact, had many strengths that could be used to her advantage including how much she was motivated by being around other people.

She began to use that as a strategy and created study groups as well as an online support group for others who were struggling with ADHD. She has now consistently made Dean’s list and one of her personal accomplishments was being paid to illustrate a children’s book. Now, as a senior, she is combining her creativity and her dedication to making this world a better place by forming a club in which participants create beautiful, functional things for those who are unhoused.
