Creating Time

A real sadness in the world is when we don’t make time for what truly matters.

Every human experiences it. Every week I see it as a coach. Not making time for what truly matters leads to not-very-fun things like:

  • burn out

  • disappointment and even distrust in oneself

  • overwhelm

  • regrets

  • depression as we squash it

  • anxiety as we worry it will never happen

Recently, a beautiful vision plopped itself into my imagination. It lit me up. It felt like the culminating answer I had been seeking for a while.

It’s also big. There are parts to it I don’t understand yet. There are parts to it I probably never will understand and will have to hire those who do.

The enormity of it started to feel like I needed an enormous amount of time. And I didn’t know when I would have an enormous amount of time.

As I kept putting it off, it started to weigh on me. I felt slumped over in a bit of sadness every time I thought about it instead of the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed excitement I wanted to feel.

And, then, I remembered what artists do. Artists create the reality they want. So, I could harness this power to create time.

Time doesn’t show up on its own. Time won’t slow down. You will never get to the end of that to-do list. You have to make it.

So I created pockets of time. 15 minutes most mornings, not buying into the lie that I need copious amounts of time to feel real progress toward what truly matters to me.

And you don’t either.

This is true in all areas of our lives.

In the workplace, we often wait for more time to be able to do that professional development that has been calling our name. We wait for more time to deal with the underlying issue or find a better creative solution to what only half works.

What are you waiting for more time to do?

If you say there is no time, you are correct. Because you haven’t yet decided to create it.

Maybe it’s time to own your time and do what matters.

P.S. Sometimes big ‘ol fears keep us from owning our time. Sometimes we struggle to get through the feelings of burn-out, overwhelm, and frustration. Sometimes we just feel lost. If you want someone to walk beside you on a journey toward what really matters to you, I welcome you to learn more about how I can support you.
